2026 GOP Caucus & Convention Guide

Thank you for your interest in being a delegate for Chris Madel!

To be among the select few deciding who should receive the Republican endorsement for Governor, all that’s required is (1) attending three events, starting with precinct caucus on February 3, 2026; (2) becoming a delegate, and (3) voting.

On February 3, 2026, local Republican Party of Minnesota units will host precinct caucuses, the first step in reaching the 2026 GOP State Convention. Attending precinct caucus and participating in the endorsement process allows you to massively amplify your voice in selecting who will serve as the Republican candidate for Governor in November.

The power of the GOP endorsement belongs to those who show up! By committing a little bit of time and effort, you can be among the few Republicans in the state influencing candidates for office across the ballot (no prior political knowledge or experience is required).

Together, we can deliver the change Minnesota desperately needs and move our state forward!

1. Precinct Caucus: February 3, 2026 at 7pm

  • A precinct caucus is a neighborhood gathering of Republicans open to anyone without prior registration.

  • The only requirement to participate is to live in the precinct for the caucus you attend, be legally eligible to vote in the 2026 general election (i.e., be 18 years old by November 3, 2026) and support the principles of the Republican Party.

  • At precinct caucus, you are provided the opportunity to (a) vote in a statewide gubernatorial straw poll; and, if you choose, (b) run to be a delegate at the BPOU and MNGOP convention.

  • There are often more delegate slots available than candidates, usually allowing everyone interested to become delegates.

  • Find your caucus location beginning January 14th on the Secretary of State website. You can also contact your local Republican Party leaders to find our the caucus location and learn more: https://mngop.com/find-your-local-republicans/

2. BPOU Convention: Held between February 14 – March 28, 2026

  • After becoming a delegate at caucus, you will be sent a convention call for your local Basic Political Organization Unit (BPOU) convention during the Spring of 2026.

  • These meetings serve to:

    • Organize local Republican party units, based on either county or legislative districts.

    • Elect delegates to the MNGOP state convention.

      • If you are already a delegate for the BPOU convention, we encourage you to run to be a delegate for the MNGOP state convention. Candidates may be asked to briefly introduce themselves.

3. MNGOP State Convention: May 29 – 31, 2026 in Duluth

  • Delegates elected at their BPOU convention will receive a convention call for the Republican Party of Minnesota state convention.

  • You will have the opportunity to vote on an endorsement for all statewide races and help craft the official party platform.
